Witchfire drops you into a world where guns and dark magic collide. From the same folks who made Painkiller and Bulletstorm, this one doesn’t waste time with hand-holding. You’re a preyer, basically an undead assassin kept alive by witchfire running through your veins, sent to bring down the Witch of the Black Sea and whatever horrors she throws at you.

Every run feels like a gamble. You can bail early with your loot and play it safe, or push deeper, risk everything, and take on one of her Familiars—huge, brutal guardians standing between you and the next area. Sometimes you walk away with new weapons and upgrades. Other times you die and lose the lot. That choice is the hook, and it keeps every mission tense.

The maps aren’t just backdrops. They’re big, atmospheric spaces packed with danger—ruined villages, swamps, storm-battered fields. You never quite know what’s waiting around the corner. Add in the roguelite Arcana system and no two runs really play out the same. One moment you’re stacking perks that make you unstoppable, the next you’re scrambling with a barebones loadout trying not to get crushed.

Back at the Hermitory—your base—you’ve got time to breathe, pick your weapons, dabble with spells, or swap out artifacts. Shotguns, rifles, enchanted gear, it’s all here, and experimenting with builds is half the fun.

It’s still in Early Access, which means more areas, enemies, and tools are on the way. But even now, Witchfire already nails the mix of tight gunplay and grim fantasy atmosphere. It’s punishing, yeah, but every win feels earned.
